Regional income and secession: center-periphery relations in emerging market economies

Article Abstract:

A relationship exists between regional earnings and tendency to secede in the periphery regions in former socialist countries. A negligible increase in earning of a local region has no effect in its drive to bolt out from the main economy provided that financial surplus does not exist. On the other hand, the presence of a fiscal surplus means that small changes in income can cause or lessen secessionist tendency in the periphery.

Agglomeration economies: are they exaggerated by industrial aggregation?

Article Abstract:

Analyses of 2-digit data and 3-digit data were employed in order to determine how accurate estimates of agglomeration economies are in light of industrial aggregation. Conclusions of economies are based on data from manufacturing sectors at the 2-digit Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) level. Results show that analysis of agglomeration economies at the 2-digit SIC level do not distort estimates.

Plant proliferation in a spatial model of Cournot competition

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the way in which multi-plant firms supply a variety of goods for consumer consumption through the use of a spatial model of Cournot competition. All plants in the model are paired and evenly spaced.
