Issues are presented concerning the technology assistance services which are offered by manufacturing extension partnerships (MEP) in the US. The constraints placed on the partnered management style of the MEPs is discussed.

Evaluating industrial modernization: introduction to the theme issue

Article Abstract:

The proliferation of US public policies and programs resulted to modern manufacturing technology centers that ensure reliable technology transfer. Market competition is generated and the country's economy is improved by providing employment among other benefits. However, these industrial modernization programs vary in every location and an impact assessment is therefore needed to determine which program is best applicable to a particular place.

Current practices in the evaluation of US industrial modernization programs

Article Abstract:

The present methods of assessing US industrial modernization programs are investigated by tackling problems encountered in the development of an effective evaluation technique. First, the concept of evaluation in industrial modernization is defined followed by possible methodologies. Also discussed are the various program performance measurements and activity monitoring systems, customer valuation, outside reviews and economic effects, and interviews with program leaders and evaluators.
