Cambios: A Spanish-language approach to youth development

Article Abstract:

The national Teen Outreach Project (TOP) was adapted into a Spanish-language program called Cambios which enables 12-16 year old Latinos in California to learn about issues of intimacy in their native language. The aim is to reduce teen pregnancy and school failure rates. The program provides Latino families to focus on the positive aspects of their lives giving support to newcomers, and building on young people's strengths.

Advice to Latino parents of GLBT children

Article Abstract:

The particular challenges facing Latino parents of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered children are considered. The Latino culture tends to place strong emphasis on the family, and homosexuals often feel that they cannot be open with their family. It is vital that Latino parents seek assistance from a support group and try to overcome their fears about homosexuality.

Article Abstract:

A list of some of the organizations who can provide support and guidance for parents and other carers about sexual education is presented. Eight organizations including the Annie E. Casey Foundation are described.
