A dynamic model of friendly association networks

Article Abstract:

A theoretically based dynamic model of the formation and maintenance of large friendly association networks (FANs) is suggested and implemented through computer simulation. It is indicated that parameter settings in turn have implications for characteristics of friendship processes and the individuals in the empirical networks.

Research suggests political power gained through appointment allows the appointer to control over 10% of variation in the final decision. Voting has also been shown to give appointers more power than a turn-taking procedure in most cases.
