Care for depression in HMO patients aged 65 and older

Article Abstract:

Many elderly patients are not receiving adequate treatment for depression. In a study of 2,558 Medicare HMO patients, less than 30% of those with symptoms of depression received a prescription for an antidepressant.

Treatment of depression improves physical functioning in older adults

Article Abstract:

The findings of the Improving Mood: Promoting Access to Collaborative Treatment (IMPACT) indicates that physical functioning improves as outcome of depression treatment among older adults. Depression clinical specialists worked in collaboration with primary care practitioners to provide more holistic intervention.
