Sarcopenia: alternative definitions and associations with lower extremity function

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted, based on the data from the baseline examination of the Health Aging and Body Composition, to compare and examine two sarcopenia definitions, and also find the relationship between them and lower extremity function. The results suggest that fat mass should be considered in estimating prevalence of sarcopenia in women and in obese individuals.

Cholesterol and health in old age: risk factor or risk marker?

Article Abstract:

The debate about the cholesterol and health that contributes to controversy over whether treatment for hypercholesterolemia could be detrimental to health in old age are discussed. The care that the investigators need to take into account while assessing risks associated with cholesterol is described.

A cohort study examining the association between different types of physical activity behaviors and incident mobility limitation in older men and women and to examine whether muscle parameters mediate these associations is presented.
