One-trial associative priming of nonwords in young and older adults

Article Abstract:

Young and older adults show associative priming for new connections in a nonword naming task in a single-trial experiment with little across-age variance. Associative priming is evident in faster naming of repeated nonwords than changed nonwords in single-trial, full attention, and one of the two divided attention conditions. Divided attention seems to disrupt recognition memory for new associations in both age groups. The absence of decrements in associative priming in tasks requiring little elaborative processing indicates that findings of age-related effects cannot be generalized to all kinds of associative priming.

The role of client choice and target selection in self-management therapy for depression in older adults

Article Abstract:

A study aimed to add to literature documenting the comparative effectiveness of psychosocial intervention for geriatric depression, and examine a method of matching treatments to individuals, providing a choice. Depressed older adults received self-management therapy when assigned to a waiting-list control condition or to condition where the target of treatment was chosen. Individually administered self-management therapy was found to be effective in the treatment of depression. The outcome between versions of self-management therapy targeting behavioral or cognitive change, did not differ.
