Muscle power of the ankle flexors predicts functional performance in community-dwelling older women
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that ankle flexor muscle strength is a valid method for functional assessment in older women. Data were obtained from 34 women with a mean age of 75.4 years; muscle strength was measured with an isokinetic dynamometer and applied to dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, peak torque and habitual gate velocity.

Effect of leg muscle contraction velocity on functional performance in older men and women
Article Abstract:
Association between muscle strength contraction velocity and functional mobility performance in elderly people is investigated. Observed findings demonstrate that contraction velocity predicts functional performance and also that clear sex differences exist in this regard.

Increased velocity exercise specific to task (InVEST) training: a pilot study exploring effects on leg power, balance, and mobility in community-dwelling older women
Article Abstract:
A dynamic form of weighted vest exercise suitable for home use and designed to enhance muscle power, balance, and mobility is evaluated. Accordingly, it was concluded that InVest training appears to be an effective means of enhancing leg power, balancing and mobility.
