Binocular detection of masked patterns in young and old observers

Article Abstract:

An investigation of age-related difference between binoptic and dichoptic thresholds is presented. The increased thresholds of noise in older adults is also studied in relation to internal noise and filter bandwidth. A decrease in the efficiency of processing is seen to be a significant factor.

Why do older adults have difficulty following conversation?

Article Abstract:

A methodology was used to investigate age-related differences in comprehending two-person conversations. The findings suggest that dialogue poses more of a problem for older than for younger adults, not because of additional cognitive requirements of having to follow two talkers rather than one, but because older adults are not as good as younger adults at making use of auditory cues available.
