Age-related effects in the marking of old objects in visual search

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the study of the effect of age on visual marking ability are discussed. Young and older people were involved in two tests to examine their inhibition of old objects and the results are presented.

Attentional capture and aging: Implications for visual search performance and oculomotor control

Article Abstract:

Potential age-relate differences in attentional capture were examined. Response times lengthened for both young and old adults when an onset distractor appeared, and eye scan strategies were also disrupted. Subjects made eye movements to the task-irrelevant onset prior to moving their eyes to the target in around 40% of the trials on which an onset appeared. There were brief fixations close to the onset, indicating parallel programming of a reflexive eye movement to the onset.
