Basic human drive makes people strive for attaining higher levels of functioning and accumulating resources. Research suggests that approaching gains or growth seem to be more beneficial for motivation, performance, and well-being than attempting to avoid losses and younger adults appear to be more motivated when a goal focuses on optimization than on compensation.

A research was conducted on subjective age by examining the interplay of felt age with health, functional limitations, and personality. Results indicated that functional limitations might be more important to the construction of felt age than their underlying health-related causes.

The health action process approach (HAPA) was examined in younger and middle-aged Korean adults to account for cultural uniqueness and characteristics of life-span development. The HAPA affects poorly to the younger adults.
