Spatial and temporal variation in isotopic composition of atmospheric lead in Norwegian moss

Article Abstract:

The use of radioactive tracers showed that atmospheric lead accumulated by samples of Norwegian moss collected in various parts of the country came from various part of the Europe, notably the UK and France. Lead isotopes were used to trace the origins of the atmospheric lead and was also used to quantify the amount of lead transported through the atmosphere. Lead accumulated by the Norwegian moss samples showed a distinct spatial and temporal pattern, especially the samples coming from coastal and inland regions.

Observation on persistent organic pollutants in plants: implications for their use as passive air samplers and for POP cycling

Article Abstract:

Measurements persistent organic pollutants (POP) in plants is found to be affected by characteristics of species that it is important to factor in intraspecies differences when making computations. POPs were measured in various Norwegian sites and results show that there are differences in accumulation between species and across temperatures. PCBs are found to accumulate in higher rates for higher congeners and at lower temperatures.

Atmospheric deposition of PCBs to moss (Hylocomium splendens) in Norway between 1977 and 1990

Article Abstract:

Hylocomium splendens samples collected in 1977, 1985 and 1990 from the same sites in Norway were analyzed for the presence of polychlorinated biphenyl congeners. The results showed that the congener concentration in all samples from all locations declined over time. It is suggested that the general reduction in worldwide use of these congeners is responsible for the decrease.
