Article Abstract:
A particle-level continuum analysis of the densification of tin cylinders during uniaxial hot pressing is given. Tin is chosen as the test material because its mechanical properties are known and it deforms by creep at ambient temperature. Finite element models are used in analyzing the densification in monosized and bimodal particle distributions. The analytical method used allows the study of nonuniform sized particles and different materials. The models could also be used in strain fields that are used in forecasting the growth of the microstructure during the hot pressing process.

Article Abstract:
The post-yield behavior of glassy polymers comprised of intrinsic strain softening and strain hardening can be validated using compressible Leonov model extended to such analyses. Results point out that the intrinsic strain softening effect is the primary cause for localization phenomenon in polycarbonate.
