Managing medical waste technology: how US hospitals adapted to change

Article Abstract:

A survey of US hospital waste management activities in relation to federal regulation reveals that 77% of the 78 facilities implemented changes in one or more of their operations in storage, treatment, handling, transport and disposal of medical waste and staff training. The study takes into account how federal regulations influenced medical waste technology adoption of US hospitals and how it could affect medical facilities in other countries.

Technological innovations in hospitals: What kind of competitive advantage does adoption lead to?

Article Abstract:

An analytical framework for innovations based on the resource-advantage theory of competition is proposed and applied to healthcare, an important segment of the US economy. The impact of technological innovations for competitive advantage examined indicates that adoption is higher among bigger hospitals and teaching hospitals.

The role of diagnostic technology in competition among Japanese hospitals

Article Abstract:

Non-price competition in Japanese hospitals is studied, particularly on computed tomography (CT) scanning and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Hospitals tend to acquire CT scanners when majority of their counterparts have done so. Contrastingly, MRI demonstrated little evidence of being an instrument of competition.
