Many health maintenance organizations and insurance firms rely on questionable data on doctors' fees in choosing whom to exclude from their lists of preferred medical services providers. The data that insurers use to deselect physicians is sensitive to such variable as average patient age.

India passed laws prohibiting the sale of donated organs because of theft of organs and other unethical practices. In India and some other countries, poor people, executed prisoners, and brain-dead patients are being used as sources of organs for the lucrative organ transplant trade.
