Friction at the atomic scale

Article Abstract:

The laws of macroscopic friction do not apply to nanotribology, the study of atomic-level friction. How readily two surfaces get stuck together in comparison to the ease with which the surfaces release, is what controls the amount of friction created, not the force's strength.

Negative energy, wormholes and warp drive

Article Abstract:

It is possible for a segment of space to contain an energy density that is less than nothing. In theory, the bizarre possibilities this might bring about could include a so-called 'wormhole' to another part of the universe, and faster-than-light travel.

The discovery of the top quark

Article Abstract:

The principles behind particle physics was better understood with the discovery of the top quark, the sixth element comprising matter. It is believed that radioactive decay may be caused by quarks, which are produced as a result of proton collision.
