An overview is presented of the work of community volunteers in Canada to conserve some of the country's key bird habitats. Douglas Marsh houses 12% of the world's population of yellow rails and has been designated an Important Bird Area of global significance.

The power of networking

Article Abstract:

The Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network seeks to assist Canadian researchers in collaborating to tackle environmental problems and establish an environmental early warning system. It has created a network of almost 100 ecological 'case study sites.'

Tabusintac: a dynamic coastal home for plovers and terns

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the importance of the Tabusintac Lagoon and River Estuary which is an Important Bird Area. The bird species which can be seen there include terns, plovers, geese and mergansers and other ducks.
