Distribution of aqueous chlorine with nitrogenous compounds: chlorine transfer from organic chloramines to ammonia

Article Abstract:

The distribution of chlorine species over time was explained by a kinetic model constructed for chlorine transfer in the aqueous chlorine/ammonia/ organic nitrogen system. Simulated conditions of wastewater disinfection were used to observe the rate constants for chlorine transfer from organic chloramines to ammonia. It was found that as chloramine basicity increased, the rates of transfer to both ammonia and chloramine hydrolysis decreased.

Adsorbing colloid flotation of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions at large ionic strength

Article Abstract:

The use of a mixture of sodium oleate and sodium dodecyl sulfate as a collector and frother, respectively, produces a substantial improvement in the electrolyte tolerance of adsorbing colloid flotation of heavy metal ions from waste water. In addition, the use of Mg(II) as an activator also improves electrolyte tolerance. As such, the effectiveness of adsorbing colloid flotation in removing heavy metals from waste water is greatly improved.

Chlorine isotope investigation of natural attenuation of trichloroethene in an aerobic aquifer

Article Abstract:

Stable chlorine isotope ratio measurements have been found to be an effective means of measuring the natural attenuation rates of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons. Measurements used trichloroethene and inorganic chloride and results show that stable chlorine isotope ratios are consistent with that expected from natural attenuation and consistent with available hydrogeologic data and history of activities in the test site.
