Article Abstract:
The Marine Midland Arena's roofing system is a tension-braced dome roof made up of a combination of a tensegrity cable dome and a barrel braced dome. This combination of strength and simplicity was achieved by Ellerbe Becket Architects and Engineers, the facility's designer. The Marine Midland Arena, located in Buffalo, NY, is home to the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres. As such, the facility's roof was designed to support suspended heavy loads such as scoreboards and sound systems. The roof structure was also designed to withstand heavy loads of snow.
