This article describes the design and construction of a concrete arched footbridge without any column support or passive reinforcement in Seoul, South Korea. The footbridge will be constructed using a new, ultra-high-performance concrete. The reactive powder concrete possesses compressive strength comparable to that of steel.

The creeping storm

This article discusses the construction of barriers such as levees around the low-lying city of New Orleans to protect it from hurricanes and storms. A hurricane model, AdCirc, is proposed, which produces data on surge elevations at flood gauges based on storm's conservation of mass and momentum.
