Bioavailability of naphthalene sorbed to cationic surfactant-modified smectite clay
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to examine the sorption-desorption behavior of nonionic inorganic contaminants such as naphthalene with cationic surfactant-modified smectite clay. Results revealed that modified soil or clay increases the bioavailability of sorbed naphthalene and the degradative power of soil bacteria.

Bioavailability of soil-sorbed biphenyl to bacteria
Article Abstract:
Researchers from the Michigan State University assessed the availability of soil-sorbed biphenyl to two biphenyl-degrading bacteria, Pseudomonas putida and Rhodococcus erythropolis, using a kinetic mineralization assay.

Residual petroleum in sediments reduces the bioavailability and rate of reductive dechorination of Aroclor 1242
Article Abstract:
Residual petroleum components in sediment provide for a sorptive phase that lowers the concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and reduces the rate of dechlorination and the bioavailability of PCBs.
