An improved thermal oxidation method for the quantification of soot/graphitic black carbon in sediments and soils
Article Abstract:
Soot/graphitic black carbon and char/charcoal black carbon are measured in soils and sediments from Mexico using thermal oxidation. Concentrations of black carbon are graphed in comparison to total organic carbon.

Acid leaching of metals from environmental particles: expressing results as a concentration within the leachate fraction
Article Abstract:
Evaluation of the two techniques to express leachable fractions of environmental particles were conducted with calculations based on leached mass proving better than those using total mass of starting material. The leached mass basis proved to effective in reducing bias associated with the presence of nonreactive residual materials, which can introduce bias in terms of grain size and composition.

Acid leaching of metals from environmental particles: expressing results as a concentration within the leachable fraction
Article Abstract:
A study found that the expression of metals leached by acids could be better obtained by calculating the mass balance of a sample of sediment after measuring its concentrations of various elements via the leaching method rather than the total mass technique. The metals leached from the environmental particles can be provide a clearer, more scientific, less erroneous method of expression.
