A cancer epidemic?

Article Abstract:

Much of the widespread fear of cancer is due to ignorance and misunderstanding of the diseases which is reflected in the current regulatory and environmental policies. People need to be educated about the disease, its prevalence, causes and the science of testing. A proper standard must be developed for determining carcinogenicity that is based on current scientific knowledge of the biology of cancer, epidemiology, and tests methods.

Animal studies and cancer risk

Article Abstract:

Despite animal testing coming under fire on account of animal rights and safety of these experiments, such testing remains an invaluable component of cancer research. Researchers can derive statistically significant research quite readily due to animals' short life span. Animals can be shielded from harmful genetic and environmental effects. The most important contribution of animal studies has been in the prevention of diseases.

Epidemic of sleepiness threatens public safety

Article Abstract:

Many people have less sleep than they should, according to research. Modern work ethics and communication systems encourage people to lose sleep for financial gain and career progression even though their health and personal safety may suffer. Public safety is unquestionably at risk when human beings are tired. Serious accidents such as the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger may have been caused by employee sleep debt.
