Article Abstract:

Japan's 6,529-ft, or 2.43-mi, Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is the world's longest suspension bridge, which will open on April 1998. It connects the mainland of Honshu to the island of Awaji. It was tested on seismic shocks and can survive earthquake that measures up to 8.5 in the Richter scale.

Ghost busters

Article Abstract:

As many as 75% of the television sets in the US have 'ghost' images, but a Ghost Cancellation Reference (GCR) signal may soon change that. Television manufacturers will be encoding the GCR signal in the sets and many television stations are already transmitting the GCR signal.

Flat TV arrives: a new technology yields thin TVs light enough to hang on a wall

Article Abstract:

Panasonic and QFTV have developed 42- and 21-inch flat TV models that utilize plasma or charge gas to produce an image. The gas-plasma TVs have a depth of four inches and weigh 11 pounds.
