Article Abstract:
The reconstruction project for the deteriorated McCallie Avenue Viaduct in Chattanooga, Tennessee, aims to build a viaduct along the same profile as the old viaduct to ensure safe clearance of trains without detouring traffic. The 645 ft prestressed-concrete structure is continuous, build on drilled caissons and lacks requirements for deck joints. Its designing focuses on resolving 23 ft vertical clearance at all railroad tracks and 40 mph design speed. The designing strategies and structural parameters are discussed.
