Article Abstract:

A conference of scientists and engineers agreed that NASA could streamline a five-mission Mars exploration program to have a rock-sample return by 2003. Though scientists are anxious to find more signs of ancient life, preparatory flights are needed for site selection and rover development.

New clues for two toxicological mysteries

Article Abstract:

A Duke Univ team found that the marine microbe pfisteria piscicida impaired rats' ability to learn new information. Another team purified an extract containing the microbe's toxin. William Boyes of the EPA found that the insecticide chlorpyrifos hampered eye development in young chickens.

Is warming trend harming penguins?

Article Abstract:

Ecological research indicates that an increase in midwinter temperature in the western Antarctic Peninsula is linked to a decrease in the Adelie penguin population. The warming could be causing more snow, making it difficult for the birds to breed.
