Will Ireland break up?

Article Abstract:

Ireland's committed church-goers have played a role in the campaign against the legalisation of divorce in the run-up to the forthcoming referendum, but the anti-divorce protest has mainly focused on the possible negative social and economic impacts. There has clearly been a feeling that a direct religious attack on divorce would no be effective, and this reflects the social changes which have been taking place in Ireland. Pro-divorce campaigners believe that legalising divorce would allow many separated people to remarry.

On the shores of inspiration

Article Abstract:

The village of Cill Rialaig, Ireland, has been attracting considerable attention from artists. It experienced steady decline after the potato famine in the mid-19th century, but there are now plans for half of its original 14 ruined cottages to be renovated. Two have already been renovated, and are being made available free of charge to visiting artists, many of whom come from abroad. They often leave behind a work of art produced there. These are sold to raise funds.

Minister emerges from decade in the shadows

Article Abstract:

The new Irish Foreign Minister David Andrews aims to foster better relations with the UK. He intends to bring about changes, such as the right to abortion. He also supports Catholics and nationalists. He opposes the High Court judgement of Feb 1992 which disallowed a 14 year old rape victim to have an abortion in England. Andrews is a barrister and became the Leader of the Fianna Fail party in 1979.
