The National Trust is very careful about selecting tenants for its historic houses. Tenants must be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of the property, as most of the National Trust's historic houses are open to the public. They must be prepared to take responsibility for the day-to-day running costs and decoration, and may have to agree to not leave the property unattended. They must cooperate with the National Trust to clean the property during the winter, and must be aware of problems such as exposing historic fittings to heat and light.

The headlong rush for rentals

Article Abstract:

The recent recession in the UK gave a strong boost to the rental property sector. The housing market is now showing signs of a revival, but people are still reluctant to move to a more expensive property. However, they are further fuelling the rental property sector by investing spare funds in a property which they can then rent out. The new Buy-to-Let initiative allows people to take out a loan to purchase a property to rent out, but the purchaser must use the management services of an agent belonging to the Association of Residential Letting Agents.

Article Abstract:

Many British people are now considering the possibility of acquiring a property in northern France, especially if it is near the coast and can be used for weekend breaks. They are particularly interested in run-down rural properties which can be purchased cheaply and refurbished. Inland, the walled city of Montreuil is very popular, and it is worth looking at the valleys south of the market town of Hesdin.
