Article Abstract:

Playwriting has taken a central position in the culture of the Royal Court theatre in London, England, according to Ian Rickson, who will be the theatre's artistic director from Apr 1998. The theatre is currently undergoing a period of considerable popularity. Rickson recognizes that its popularity could wane, but feels that there would always potential for it to revive again. He believes that there is a more personal element emerging in new playwriting, reflecting the seeking nature of modern society.

Article Abstract:

The Royal Shakespeare Company has encountered significant challenges with the staging of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.' This book contains a great deal of magic, and it can be very hard to represent this convincingly on stage. The story is very well known, and many people have a strong mental picture of how Narnia, the magical kingdom it portrays, should look. The best approach has proved to be being as simple as possible, both with props and with costumes.
