Electrocomponents, the UK electronics supplier, is to put its RS Components catalogue on the business-to-business website called Global Trading Web. This trading site is run by Commerce One and brings together buyers with suppliers. RS Components already runs its own successful web site with e-purchasing facilities. Analysts were concerned that the new deal might disrupt existing systems but Electrocomponents' general manager Steve Hone insisted the two portals were complementary. Electrocomponents is considering further e-commerce developments in the months ahead.

UK-based music recording company EMI is to collaborate with Supertracks, the US-based software house, in the development of an Internet music venture in digital distribution. EMI, which will take a small equity stake in the US company, aims to use the Supertracks delivery system to provide high quality Internet music. Music from the EMI recording catalogue, which includes the Rolling Stones and the Spice Girls, will be available on a secure online retail system.

TD Waterhouse, the discount brokerage, has gone into partnership with BT Cellnet to offer share prices over wireless application protocol (WAP)-enabled mobile phones. The feature will soon be extended to offer full share dealing. The UK's largest insurance company CGU has also announced that its Internet auction subsidiary, Bluecycle.com, will offer an interactive auction function via WAP phones.
