Dame Kiri te Kanawa, 48, popular opera star, sings at the Last Night of the Proms in 1992. Her repertoire ranges from Simon Boccanegra to West Side Story and includes the 1991 Rugby World Cup television theme and the American advertisement for Rolex. When she was 12 her family moved to Auckland so that she could study music at St Mary's College. She paid her way, singing in drinking clubs. She went to study at the London Opera Centre in 1966 as a mezzo-soprano.

The city of Seville, Spain, is associated with many myths and legends. It is based around the old town area of Santa Cruz, where there are short, narrow streets, cobbled squares and white-walled houses. The city's other attractions include the Triana district, which also has narrow streets and some old courtyards, and the cathedral. Seville is also a good base from which to visit places such as Madrid, Granada and Cordoba.

Managers in the UK television industry have an attitude which serves to discourage creativity. As long as this continues, the industry will never become significant on a global level. It tends to be dominated by the middle class, thus preventing access for the working class, which is where the best ideas tend to originate.
