Issues concerning the management of the UK government's select committees are discussed. Particular attention is given to the opposition of backbench Labour MPs to the removal of Gwyneth Dunwoody and Donald Anderson from their select committee chairmanships.

Article Abstract:

The difficulties associated with presenting a united front of the UK's main political parties in response to the terrorist attacks in the US are considered. It is argued that party politics should not necessarily be put aside at a time of international crisis.

Today's MPs are a bunch of toothless sycophants

Article Abstract:

The UK's Labour government has so far been characterized by MPs being extremely sycophantic. Backbench MPs on both sides of the House of Commons generally meekly accept manipulation by their whips and show very little independent thought. Many backbench MPs spend a great deal of time on constituency work, which is to their credit, but doubts can be raised about whether this should be their priority. It is now time for MPs to become more questioning and cynical.
