UK's fixed-line residential telephone market significantly grew in 1997 with an increase of 16% as compared to 1994. Of the different types of fixed phones, UK consumers preferred cordless telephones, and thus, increasing sales of this product by 45%. The growing competitiveness within the telephone market has driven prices of telephone apparatus down, which contributed to the increase in volume sales. British Telecom remains the leading manufacturer and service provider of the telephone market.

Article Abstract:

Barbados has the most advanced telecommunications system in the Caribbean, with 38 lines per 100 population. Barbados Telephone Co is investing $250 million over five years, and is particularly looking to expand the network. The telecommunications system is already fully digital, and there are plans for all primary schools to be linked to a computer by the end of the 1990s. Barbados is also planning to revamp the port in Bridgetown by the year 2000.
