Speaking the same language

Article Abstract:

A refugee centre near Berne, Switzerland, is currently home to more than 50 refugees of almost 20 different nationalities. Volunteers from many different countries have been working their for two-week periods, talking and listening to the residents and organising leisure activities for them. The refugees face many pressures, especially waiting to hear if they will be allowed to remain in Switzerland, so the main task of the volunteers is to provide some structure and diversion. The international work camp is organised by the Service Civil International (SCI).

She's not one of the boys

Article Abstract:

Paula Kahn was one of six senior managers in the publishing industry who former the Bentinck Group in 1993, which commissioned a research study into problems of organisational and corporate structure which prevent women from reaching top management positions. The research has found that it is not true that women are not interested in working in senior management positions. It found many hidden barriers to the success of women and that in many companies reality did not match policy in this area.

Article Abstract:

The number of people in the UK who have more than one job is growing, and there is now a trend towards establishing portfolios of career skills and experience. Experts believe that mixing of skills will become increasingly common, with the world of work expanding to cover new areas. Against this background, unpaid work and study will start to be more highly valued.
