Sir Garfield Barwick

Barrister Garfield Barwick came from a very poor family, but showed academic ability from an early age. He studied law and won a university medal at Sydney University, Australia, and built up a reputation as a very talented advocate, especially in commercial cases. He took silk in 1942, but later turned to politics, becoming Liberal member for Parramatta, Australia, in 1958. As Attorney-General, he introduced Australia's first no-fault divorce legislation.

Sir Edward Gardner
Article Abstract:
Lawyer and politician Edward Gardner was born in Preston, England, in 1912. He worked at the Lancashire Daily Post and the Daily Mail before serving during the second world war. He was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 1949 and became Master of the Bench in 1968.

Barrister and politician Toby Low, the first Lord Aldington, was born in 1914. He studied Law at New College, Oxford, England, and was called to the Bar at Middle Temple in 1939.
