The good, the bard and the ugly

Article Abstract:

The council in Swansea, Wales, commissioned three poets in 1992 to compose poetry to be engraved on benches, paving and signposts in the improved city centre. Wales has a tradition of poetry. Swansea won an Arts Council grant to become City of Literature 1995. The council removed some of the poetry as there was too much of it, but poet Nigel Jenkins felt it was because he was chairman of the Swansea Writers and Artists Group. SWAG was formed to encourage the inclusion of local writers in the City of Literature, but it produced rebellious sub-groups.
