Reinventing the Seventies

Article Abstract:

ITV's new situation comedy 'Days Like These,' which features teenagers who meet in a garage converted into a den in Luton, England, in 1976, is derived from the very popular US situation comedy 'That Seventies Show.' This show has been adapted for British audiences by British writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, but the British version is overseen by US comedy producers Carsey Werner. The main difficulty with the new show is that it is not really very representative of life in the UK in the mid-1970s, being based on US scripts and adapted by two Britons who were too young to really experience the 1970s.
