Voice-mail is already widely used by large companies, but could now start to become a fashionable household accessory. In households which already own a PC, the only equipment required is a fast modem which can handle voice as well as data and fax. Voice-mail offers many different features, and does away with the need to invest in a second phone line and a fax machine. However, the technology is still in its early stages, and there are a number of potential problems.

Philip Letts is a member of the family which has been publishing diaries for almost two centuries under the name Charles Letts and Co. However, he has decided to pursue his own business interests, and founded Cambridge Market Intelligence (CMI), which commissions and publishes technology reports. It uses latest technology and has established an extensive sales database by using youth trainees and students to contact information technology managers directly by phone.
