Artsway, a gallery of contemporary art directed by Linda Fredericks, has been created from a former coach house at the back of the Forest Heath Hotel in Sway, England. The development was designed by architect Tony Fretton, who is already highly respected for the Lisson Gallery in London, England. It manages to place contemporary art in a rural setting, the New Forest, and incorporates both historical and futuristic elements. It features gallery space sunk into the ground, and from the inside feels much larger than it appears on the outside.

The announcement of plans to convert the former Bankside power station in London, England, into a new public gallery of modern art for the Tate was one of the most significant developments in architecture in the UK in 1995. The choice of site had to be a compromise, as there were many constraints on the planners in an already overcrowded area, but has proved to be an excellent decision. The project will transform a temple of power into a powerhouse of art.

Architects Eldred Evans and David Shalev designed the new Tate Gallery in St Ives, Cornwall, England. The complex, seaside building is coated with white marble dash and has projections and canopies. There are portholes in interior walls, galleries of different heights and a semi-circular sculpture court. The work of artists Ben Nicholson and Alfred Wallis who lived and painted in St Ives in 1928 will contrast with the categorised, formal gallery.
