Out in the cold - boys at school, men at home

Article Abstract:

There has been considerable reluctance over recent years to acknowledge the fundamental differences between the sexes, partly for fear that this would be used to excuse discrimination against women. However, more and more observers are now accepting that boys and girls and men and women do differ. It is clear that boys and girls have different rates of development, and this means that their educational needs differ. Similarly, there are biological reasons why men and women act differently. It is now time to negotiate a new environment with which both men and women feel comfortable.

Why fathers should have their day

Article Abstract:

The UK government's Green Paper 'Supporting Families' shows willingness to support fatherhood, but those who drew up the document clearly have little idea how to put this into practice. No consideration is given to the problem of almost all health visitors being women, for example, or to the fact that the vast majority of calls to the helpline Parentline, in which the government plans to invest, are from women. Furthermore, no measures are included to make the 'Bounty' pack of baby items made available to new mothers more accessible to fathers.
