Jonathan Fenby became editor of Hong Kong's 'South China Morning Post' at a very difficult time, as within days of his arrival there, 10% of the staff were made redundant. The paper was in fact very profitable, being the largest-selling English-language newspaper in Hong Kong. However, managers were concerned that the rate of profit growth had slowed down, and cost cutting was also necessary because of the sharp rise in newsprint prices.

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong businessman Gordon Wu has created an image of himself as a visionary, with Hopewell Holdings, his main operation, being involved in many deals throughout Asia. However, Hopewell's share price has fallen dramatically recently, and investors are now beginning to realise that many of Wu's ambitious projects never actually get completed. The company's debt is rising as many schemes experience serious delays.

Crazy talk about property prices back to normal

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong property prices have fallen slightly recently, although they are still extremely high. Some observers feel that a serious supply shortage will push prices back up again, with these vastly inflated levels coming to be seen as 'normal.' High prices have already forced many companies to seek office accomodation elsewhere.
