Mightier than the sword

Article Abstract:

The UK Conservative party could derive considerable benefit from a defeat in the forthcoming general election, according to Lord McAlpine, former treasurer of the Conservative party and now a member of the Referendum Party. He has caused embarrassment to the government with his new book, even though he feels that the book does not really deal with politics at all. He believes that the Conservatives should be against a single European currency and in favour of renegotiating the UK's relationship with Europe.

Prince Rupert at a dangerous gallop

Article Abstract:

Chancellor Kenneth Clarke is a very straightforward person, and is not really very concerned with cultivating a particular public image. He does not seek protection from his colleagues, and is unafraid of stating his beliefs openly. His position has benefited from his consistency and courage, and he would now be a strong contender in any battle for the leadership of the Conservative party.
