Article Abstract:

Festive fun, by George

Article Abstract:

The village of Archova, Greece, holds a three-day festival every year in honour of St George, its patron saint. This begins with singing, dancing and sporting events, and ends with a church service and celebration meal. Local people dress up in traditional costume, and a large procession is led by the priest. Local legend tells that St George saved the village from a dragon, and the shepherds of the village subsequently honoured St George every year to ensure his protection for another year.
