Louise is holding on. But only just

Article Abstract:

The principle behind the UK's Child Support Agency (CSA), that parents must accept financial responsibility for their children, was widely accepted when the CSA began operating in 1993. However, the CSA has encountered significant difficulties. Lone mothers have found that the CSA is unable to force their estranged partner to make maintenance payments to their children, while fathers have found that they cannot obtain a correct assessment of what they are supposed to pay. There have been particularly strong objections to the fact that the Treasury demanded repayment of any maintenance, pound for pound, received by mothers on benefits.

Who is going to care for my mother?

Article Abstract:

There is very little support available in the UK for people who are seeking care facilities for elderly relatives, according to Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow. He felt extremely guilty about having to place his elderly mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, in a residential care facility. There are many residential homes, but most are unwilling to take people who suffer from Alzheimer's and therefore need quite intensive care. Snow found that most homes were of a very poor standard, but they still had very long waiting lists.
