It is possible to regard the world's leading multinational companies as economic entities in their own right. Japanese concern Mitsubishi, for example, has the largest sales of any company, can be classified as the 22nd largest economic entity in the world. Indeed, only 49 of the world's top 100 economic entities are countries, with the rest being multinational companies. Investors should be aware that very well known companies, especially those involved in car manufacturing and telecommunications, hold considerable economic power.

Is there a way to beat the Budget?

Article Abstract:

There are a number of ways in which investors can ensure that they will not be negatively affected by the Budget which UK Chancellor Gordon Brown is to issue in Jul 1997. It is probably worth taking the full allowance for personal equity plans before the Budget, as Brown may limit the total amount which can be invested. People who have a large short-term capital gain would be well advised to use up the 1997 exemption before the end of Jun 1997, as the forthcoming Budget may introduce a more punitive level of taxation.

Money can smooth the path of a divorce. But it brings with it a full set of problems

Both partners involved in a divorce may end up suffering considerable financial uncertainty, even if they are wealthy. A wife receiving a lump sum divorce settlement, for example, will need to take advice about how best to invest this to meet her immediate and long-term needs and those of any children. Pensions can be a particularly difficult issue, especially the spouse's entitlement to any retirement fund.
