Last rites for the Masai

Article Abstract:

The lands of the Masai tribe in Kenya and Tanzania have been very negatively affected by tourism over recent decades, even in cases where there has apparently been a strong conservation motive. International conservation agencies have encouraged the government of Tanzania to make large areas of the tribe's traditional lands 'protected areas,' for example, and this has led to the Masai being forced to live elsewhere. The Masai must now try to survive in small areas of land outside the new national parks.

Sun daze in Kerala

Article Abstract:

Most people who visit the Indian state of Kerala travel first to the beach resort of Kovalam, situated 16 km outside the state capital, Thiruvanananthapuram. This resort has some trappings of tourism, but is still beautiful and gives the visitor an insight into traditional Indian life. Tourists are also discovering Verkala. Visitors may also wish to travel around Kerala. The best way to do this is by boat, as the state has a network of waterways.

The standard of office facilities in hotel rooms still varies considerably. It can be difficult for business travellers to find out what business facilities even luxury hotels offer, but most international hotel chains are now improving their services in this area. There are various techniques which can make it easier to send electronic mail from a hotel room, but some business travellers prefer to use videoconferencing facilities.
