Article Abstract:
Initial results from the recent general election in Israel indicated a victory for prime minister Shimon Peres. However, later indications are that Binyamin 'Bibi' Netanyahu, leader of the right-wing Likud party, may have won after all. Supporters of Peres are now beginning to say that he should have tried to obtain more political capital from the murder of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. Netanyahu may win by only a small majority, but will not find it hard to form a government, as he has a number of potential allies.

Article Abstract:
There are very mixed views among ordinary Israeli voters in the run-up to the forthcoming election, and the result is likely to be very close. Some people have been extremely intimidated by recent suicide bombings, and believe that prime minister Shimon Peres should resign. Opposition leader Binyamin 'Bibi' Netanyahu is using the attacks as a weapon against Peres. Some voters believe that the situation would improve under Netanyahu, who would not make so many concessions to the Arabs.
