It was a trip into the unknown, even for the doctors
Article Abstract:
LSD became a popular recreational drug in the 1960s, but in both the US and the UK it was also being tested for medical uses. It was tested in random and irrational ways, often by doctors themselves. Some National Health Service patients were given very large doses of LSD, and many suffered long-term psychological repercussions. The CIA believed that LSD could be used to control foreign leaders or to make interrogation subjects speak more openly.
