If this is your idea of adoption, think again

Article Abstract:

It has now become extremely difficult to adopt a baby in the UK. Only around 300 babies become available for adoption each year, and up to 20 couples apply for each one. Adoption agencies are responding by placing increasing emphasis on the possibility of adopting an older child. Experts believe that this is not necessarily a positive development, especially if adopters are not made fully aware of the repercussions which a child's past experiences may have. The approval process for adoption can be extremely traumatic for the prospective adopters.

Will this advert make you bunk off work?

Article Abstract:

Some UK employers have criticized an advertising campaign by outdoor clothing and equipment manufacturer Karrimor that uses 'phone in sick' as its main text. These employers believe that Karrimor is encouraging employee absenteeism and disloyalty. However, the Institute of Personnel and Development believes that the Karrimor advertisement could actually have a positive effect in the longer term, raising the profile of absenteeism and therefore encouraging employers to improve their policies on it.

A passport to your new career

Article Abstract:

Secretarial work is an attractive option for those who need to earn some money while travelling abroad. Many of the larger recruitment consultancies now have offices abroad, and these offices will supply applicants with the necessary information about issues such as work permits. It is worth considering dividing a trip abroad between countries where it is legal to work and countries where it is illegal.
