Houston, we have a result

Article Abstract:

Engineers at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, believe that there are good prospects for fully reviving the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (Soho), with which radio contact was lost on Jun 25, 1998. Contact was reestablished on Aug 3, 1998, and the hydrazine in the main tank has been thawed. Efforts are now being made to heat the pipes that connect Soho's hydrazine tank to the thrusters outside. Engineers hope that they will be able to point Soho back to face the Sun, thus allowing its solar panels to function properly again.

Article Abstract:

Unit Telescope 1, the first of four large telescopes which will make up the Very Large Telescope (VLT) being constructed by the European Southern Observatory on the summit of the Cerro Paranal mountain in Chile, will be completed at the end of May 1998. The VLT will offer both very high resolution and very high sensitivity, and will make it possible to observe objects in great detail. It will assist in areas including gaining more information about planets that circle around stars.

Article Abstract:

The American National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the European Space Agency are working on the Next Generation Space Telescope, which will replace the Hubble Space Telescope, launched in Apr 1990. It is currently planned to launch the Next Generation Space Telescope in 2007. It will be able to observe distant celestial objects in both visible and infrared light, and will also be able to study the rotation of stars and gases around the nuclei of galaxies.
